Our Four Legged Friends

Henry loves dogs.

Really loves dogs.

Reaaaaaaaaally loves dogs!

Everytime he sees one, he points, pants and sometimes barks at it. The neighbor of our babysitter has a dog and he will point at the empty dog cage on the side of their house and pant.

Last night we were playing outside for quite a while and our neighbor down the street had her two large dogs out. Henry spotted them from our driveway and started his panting and pointing. We looked at the dogs and talked about them for a bit, and another neighbor (that we know) happened to walk by with her dog, so we even had a chance to pet one!

About 10 minutes later, Henry is playing with a toy and I go and start sweeping the garage a bit. The next thing I know, he's running down the MIDDLE OF THE ROAD to the neighbors!

Thankfully we live on a very quiet street, the only traffic we have is for people that live on our street, so he wasn't in danger, but he certainly scared me! He, being so innocent, just wanted to see those big doggies.

We came back to our driveway and I explained the road was a "no no", which he seemed to understand for the rest of our time outside. He would walk to the edge of the driveway, look back at me and not go any further-just pointing and panting at the dogs.

We went back inside after a while and Henry threw an absolute fit! He is not generally one to have a fit, or cry, unless he has a reason, but I could not-for anything!-figure this one out!

After about 5 miutes of kicking on the ground, crying and being fussy, he finally, between sobs, let out some dog pants.

The light bulb went on.

He just really wanted to go see those dogs!

I scooped him up and held him close. I explained we did not know those people, or those dogs, but instead, we could read some books about dogs. He looked at me with his beautiful blues and did his "more" sign.

Off to his room where I got his stuffed dog from his crib and we read about 6 books with dogs in them. He was happy again and got his dog fix.

This was the first time Henry has done something like this - usually he fits over being hungry or tired...but not over something he wants, or something he remembers from over 15 minutes ago. It was a brand new thing for this Mommy!! It's amazing to watch him grow and learn.
